During the refurbishment of a salt water boat some 22 cast bronze portlights and trim rings were removed for the purpose of coating them with a white paint. The reason for the coating is to change the exterior dark bronze color to a white color to reduce heat conduction into the interior of the boat. IR heat gun readings of the inside showed ~190*F on the sunlit side of the vessel during summer. Communication with the Awlgrip technical people has produced a system of preparation leading to the application of Awlgrip 545 (primer). After the 545 the top coat (Awlgrip) would be applied. This is one way to get white onto the bronze.

Does a member of this forum know of other, better, ways to stick a coating on bronze?
