EMI RFI Shielding Coatings

No sci-fi aliens from "The Outer Limits" are controlling your TV, we're aware. Your knobs for picture or volume adjustment, your dial for channel changing, too, should be working fine.
But electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) are very real, based on the explosive growth of electronics in the marketplace. So, how can you make your product safer, more secure?
Consider military, aerospace, medical or consumer device. Everything is getting smaller. Allowed routes for energy propagation are shortened. Processors are faster. The result is more and more interference, growing concern to protect ourselves. Why? Because, failure, damage, or disruption could be catastrophic.
What are the options? Well, there is ground, filtration, reflectance or transmittance. Achieved by creating a conductive surface for the environment, you have the means to transfer the wave of energy to another source. Proven by Michael Faraday, his "Faraday Cage" says a conductive enclosure can eliminate disruption or damage.
That's what makes metal coatings so beneficial. Strongly adherent, many ductile, they can be applied to a variety of materials. Coating choices can include: aluminum, copper, nickel and chrome. Applied by condensation or sputtering under vacuum, plating, or spray.
Today, many coatings for EMI RFI shielding are green, environmentally friendly. That's important with emerging directives, including RoHS, ELV, and WEEE.
