PTFE has earned its place in the functional and industrial coatings marketplace. With its exceptional physical properties, PTFE has become indispensable to almost countless areas of modern manufacturing.

Known as polytetrafluoroethylene, under tradenames such as TeflonĀ®, PTFE possesses unique characteristics, including: very high thermal stability, broad and excellent chemical resistance, a wide service temperature range and excellent dielectric properties, with no embrittlement or aging.

For metallic surfaces, PTFE can be spray-applied or dipped to form a permanent polymer coating. For nonstick, low friction, squeak suppression, non-wetting, toughness and durability, excellent thermal properties, chemical inertness or dielectric strength, PTFE is rapidly becoming the material of choice.

The linear molecular structure of PTFE is arranged in a helical configuration. The fluorine atoms (highly electronegative) shield (steric hindrance) the carbon atoms. This dense structure, in combination with the high carbon-fluorine bond energy, makes PTFE suitable for use in a variety of industries: from automotive to electronics to food processing to medical.
